Monte Rosa Ski Touring First Tracks
4 days of Ski Touring “for everybody” in The Massif of Monte Rosa: an ideal introduction course for beginners or an advance course for those with some ski touring experience but would like to improve their technical level, skills and knowledge of the high mountains. The program is normally based in Alagna and we spend the first two days with single daily tours using the cablecar to easily reach the glacier area. The last two days we’ll climb up to one of the altitude Mountain Huts where we will stay for the night and the last day our achievement will be to climb one of the 4 thousand meter peaks of the Monte Rosa and enjoy a wonderful long run all the way down to the valley skiing more then 3000 vertical meter drop.

Day by day Monte Rosa Ski Touring First Tracks:
1st day: Meeting in the afernoon at the Milan Malpensa Airport where we pick you up with our van. On the way to Alagna we have the possibility to rent the ski gear and the safety gear needed. We reach in the evening Locanda Margherita Bed & Breakfast and the village of Rassa where we will have a nice Italian dinner in one of the local resturants.
2nd day: We normally start with a day of warming up in the MonterosaSki Resort, where we will do a combination of off-piste skiing and a small climb with the skins, we check the ski and safety gear, and we re-balance on the skis. If you have already experience on this activity we can start directly with a bit longer tour, maybe also reaching over 3500 meter to get use quickly to the altitude. The main target of the day will be to understand a bit more about safety on the glacier and do some training on avalanche rescue. We stay over night in Locanda Margherita B&B in Rassa, close to Alagna.
3rd day: A single day tour to reach one of the lowest summit of the Monte Rosa, like Punta Giordani or Punta Vittoria. Ski Touring technique and how to use skins and crampons on the glacier will be the main lesson of the day. Back at Locanda Margherita in the evening.
4th day: Easy day: in the morning we get ready without stress and after a nice breakfast we reach the lift system of Alagna, we can also do some good downhill ski runs and work on our ski technique before to put the skins on and climb up to Rifugio Gnifetti or Rifugio Mantova where we’ll stay for the night.
5th day: Climb up to Colle del Lys in the middle of Monte Rosa Massif and from here reach one of the summit of the Monte Rosa, maybe also the famous Capanna Margherita, the highest mountain hut in The Alps at 4559 meter of altitude.
6th day: A nice breakfast at Locanda Margherita and back to Malpensa Airport in the morning.
This is the “classic” program but other options are available and we can also tailor a program to suit you.
For example we can adapt the program to the weather and the itinerary is not strict, can be very flexible and for all levels of skier…
